Encouraged by Donald Trump and national Republican leaders, state legislatures across the country are cramming, cracking, and packing communities into districts designed to guarantee outcomes. They want to choose their voters, so your vote counts for less.
It's when politicians draw district maps to guarantee their party wins — not to represent communities fairly. The map controls who gets elected.
In Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, and beyond, maps were drawn to crack apart communities and dilute their votes. It works. And the playbook is spreading to Virginia.
Without this amendment, any future government that gains full control of Virginia could do the same — redraw our maps to silence communities like ours.
